LR3 Metal Trans Pan
I would like to think that engineers at ZF did their due diligence in selecting a material for that use, but then again they defined "life" to be 100K Miles, too, so....
I just need Abran to confirm the metal pan capacity is equal to the OE pan.

Ordered the metal Pan kit from Atlantic British Tueday and it arrived Thursday so pleased. My Indy is doing my Trans service on Friday and he is really looking forward to doing it as if all goes well it would save them loads of time per service.just the thought of a pan cracking makes me cringe! that realy should not happen, i am looking at another LR3 to purchase and exactly that happened luckily the owner caught it and had the trans serviced and new pan fitted right away.

It happens on other makes (BMW, Jaguar) enough that I came across more than a few instances of the pan warping or cracking on other forums while doing research on the 6hp26. The thought is that the proximity to the heat of the exhaust and repeated cycles is what does it in, not impacts. Different cars though, and ours looks relatively well protected by the heat shields.
I wonder now if the leak I couldn't stop or figure out was actually the plastic pan. Didn't seem like it was coming from the mechatronics sleeve as far as I could see.

These rigs are finally reaching the mileage where forum membership might start to show the trans issues for the naysayers.
I still think these are freak occurrences.
I also recall the fellow I met when buying new tires in Elko NV, he had a 2006 that did 250k+ and only repair he ever did was fit a new EAS compressor...
And this was in a mining town with crap roads and definitely no LR dealer or parts nearby.
I replaced my pan at 90,xxxk, no issues really before that.
Maybe Abran's right, we could start seeing people posting about issues, as more and more used models start falling into new hands that have seen much more abuse...

Sorry, I just saw "no real tranny issues". I have never heard of a cracked pan. I have a plastic pan and a metal one. just need some time to do the comp. And the desire to waste a filter and make a mess!
You are absolutely correct, Abran, I didn't specify. That's my bad, man....thanks for the follow-up. It's pretty transparent, hopefully, that I just want to be able to explain away the cracked pans, because if the plastic ones are ticking timebombs then clearly I'd have to address mine. As it were, when Abran has the opportunity to do the comparison of the pan capacity, the data may clear the way for a metal replacement anyhow.
Abran, if you have two sitting there, why not just fill them with water and measure the amount used?
