LR3 PCV Question
DakotaTravler: that's interesting about the PCV...I assume you have the V8 as well. On mine, the PCV is a 4" round device. When I pulled it too inspect it, there was no sound at all to indicate any moving parts. And when air was pushed through it from either end, it would pass unrestricted. I think the design is like a vortex, where it using the centrifugal force of the air spinning in the valve to separate any liquid oil and prevent it from getting into the intake - but that's pure guess work on my end. It's an odd PCV unlike any one I've seen before. If you do tear it apart and inspect it - let us know what you find!
Off topic but we're you at Rovers at Wintergreen?
@ AtlantaViking - Yes, I have the 4.4 V8. Its not really a sound that I hear. Its was a feeling when I held it and tapped it. It vibrated for a few seconds. I guess I could open mine up. When I do, I will post what I find. My guess is not much.
The stumbling: Try cleaning the PCV valve first before you spring for a replacement. It should make an improvement. Then, if you feel you need to, go ahead and replace it. Another thing that caused some rough idling and running was the EGR valve. Mine would try to stall at stop lights, difficult to start after it was warm where I had to depress the accelerator just a tiny bit while cranking the engine to get it to run. Another strange issue was that it would burble and stall trying to leave the gas station after filling up. Not overfilling, but to the first gas filler handle release where it would trip off. All of this immediately cleared up after replacing the EGR valve. It runs really nice now. Now on to the engine jackshaft and balance shaft guides and tensioners...
