LR3 Prospective Owner w/?s and Concerns
I have the opportunity to purchase a 2005 LR3 V8SE 7 Passenger for a good price (approx $15k, with 40k miles).
Knowing this car was high 40s/low 50s brand new I am thinking good deal, but I have been reading horror stories about frequent transmission and electrical issues.
Not having much time on my hands (newborn in the house) I would appreciate any feedback from the members here. I currently have a 2002 4Runner with low miles and might replace it with the LR3 if I feel confident I'm not making a bad decision.
Also, is there a LR mechanic on this board that could look up the vehicle service history? This is an "off lease" vehicle and all maintenance and repairs should be logged in the LR service history database.
Thank you,
Adam

RE: LR3 Prospective Owner w/?s and Concerns
I'm in almost the same position as the OP...2005 LR3 15-16k w/ 33k miles. I checked the VIN and it has been serviced. I will definitely be purchasing an extended warranty if I buy this car but I don't know exactly what type of warranty to look for, who is reliable, what is a good price for one etc. Any help is most appreciated.

The LR3 is the best SUV on the US market- Period. BUT it is not Honda or Toyota. It has many glitches, more anoying than serious, but you will have them. Consummer satisfaction is way high (over 95%) even with less than average reliability.
If warranty is out,it is very important to get aftermarket parts. Case in point- My dealer charged $600 for the brake change. I did it for $200.
In a nut shell -the best 3rd seat with incredible 4x4, good looks and don't forget that nice rounded greenBadge. Yes, reliability is less than average, but that isa smallprice to pay.
