Default Lr3 Purchase

We are in the market for a second car and are thinking an SUV is suitable for a family who likes camping/long trips as well as light around town trips. We dont off road but we live in Socal with lots of outdoor adventures to be had.

I found a 2005 Lr3 with Miles 141571 on it for $7,000

I plan on having a diagnostic done at a Land Rover specialist before hand to check for up coming repairs. As well as taking it through a carwash to check for leaks and asking them to replace the battery regardless of how old it is.

We have a few close relationships with mechanics and my husband usually does some mechanical work on our current, changing the oil replacing brakes and rotors, and water pump. So somethings we feel he can tackle himself while only taking it the shop in the event of something larger. I had heard getting a GAP Diagnostic IId tool would be helpful.

We are hoping to be able to take it to 200K

Please share your experience and concerns I might have to look forward to.

You shouldn't have any problems, but be sure it is not a V6, and has not been overheated. Service records are a plus. Aside from the slew of various things that go wrong on all of these, if you take care of it, it will get you there and then some. 7 Seems cheap, why?

That might explain it, it is a V6... it was listed for over 200 days at $9,000 and then they dropped the price by $2,000... I was also looking at a V8 that is $4000 more ($11,000) and now I know why... I was hoping to spend around $8,500.

I would pass on it personally, I think most here will agree. In that price range, for a V8, you'll probably end up with one that needs a little TLC, but it can be done...

Definitely pay the $300 for a Land Rover tech to inspect whatever you choose. Better the enemy you know... Expect to fork over some coin upfront getting it in shape after you buy it. Service records are huge, look for the owners that had everything done possible at the dealer. Honestly at that price expect a big fix in the future, here I found almost every one I checked needed a diff, control arms done, or had air suspension issues. That could be a regional price thing though.

EDIT: the hubby will definitely help with having issues, they aren't difficult to fix or get parts for. Just try to avoid the most expensive $$$ broken stuff.
