Should be around $700 or so. This is a fairly common transmission. I'd check for a transmission shop local to you with a good reputation for a quote. They should be able to quote you the service on your LR3 with their flat rate software.

 

we recently bought a 08 LR3 HSE with 159K for $9K. If we had $15K to spend we'd be looking for LR4's. The LR3 is an amazing car for the money, and has more "soul" and engagement and ambiance than a Jeep but the market is what it is. LR's have a bad rap with the US public and Jeep's are seen as bulletproof. It is great for us buyers.

 

Never thought of jeeps as being bullet proof not down here at least, Jeep owners are treated like leper's as they should be. Always liked the fact that i could afford an expensive car a few years after the owner took a hit for the depreciation .

 

I'm pretty sure the first owner didn't enjoy it 5X's as much as we do, but they did pay 5x's the money.

 

 

I've owned my LR3 since new (2006). Despite the horrible resale values I'm keeping mine because nothing is better than buying new. I know it inside and out. My Buckingham Blue LR3 HSE is a part of the family and if you learn to listen, it will speak to you with different sounds when its unhappy.

I know dang well that it's financially ill-advised to buy brand new, but there is something AWESOME about it. Is it 5x awesome? I don't know...but I would say it is for me. I ordered my 2005 HSE from the factory. I checked the boxes I wanted (cold climate, HD, 5-seater) and left blank the ones I didn't want (3rd row, 2nd row climate controls, etc). It was mine before it left the factory. I took delivery about 15 months before I met my wife and the memories are all tied together. If not for the Rover I would not have met her (a flat tire obtained on a trail put me in the right place at the right time, to meet her)...and it's really part of the family. Even has a name..."Luther."

I think it really comes down to ownership habits. I know that I tend to buy and hold....so if I'm going to have a vehicle for 20 years, maybe it's okay to buy new and suck up that depreciation. It it means that I didn't buy 4 used cars in that same time period, the math just might pencil out. The first car I ever bought, brand new in 1996, is a '97 Montero. It now has 285,000 miles on it and my 23 year old son drives it.

So I don't know...you can make a case for buying new.

 

Well somebody has to buy them new, or we bottom feeders couldn't find good used ones!
People like the security of the warranty and the new car confidence, and if you order one special you don't have to wait until the right one comes along. If you keep it and extract your full value from your beastie it's smart money then too, and some things can't be measured in money.

We probably all agree that Land Rovers are infectious and once you've had one everything else is kinda ordinary.

 

Never had a new rover it's unlikely I ever will but I'm glad other people buy them and take that financial hit.
