I have a disco LR3 2007 HSE TDV6. I don't use it too much, but i took a long highway trip this weekend and immediately noticed reduced power on the engine, it has 75,000 km on it. After 500 km suddenly tons of white smoke started coming from inside the cabin underneath the console. I immediately pulled over and turned the engine off. After that the screen says HDC and Transmission fault. The gearbox is stuck on 3rd and the car won't start. Appreciate all helpful comments, thanks.

 

What did it smell like? Oil? Coolant?

 

 

Hmmm....didn't see that coming! Did you check all your belts? Any other notable symptoms?

 

Seems like something electrical shorting out or overheating/melting. Aligns with the limp mode and reduced performance. It must be something either with a sensor or networked. There are all kinds of modules under the dash, I would start looking at those for signs of damage. No smoke in the engine compartment under the hood? Probably not a good idea to drive it for 500km like that, but hindsight is 20/20.

 

That smoke has a sorta electrical fire look to it. I have seen my share. Did you have any water entry issues (wet floors)?
