LR3 subtle rotational noise on deceleration
Hi all! First post on the forum, but I've used this site more times than I can count to help with diagnosis of my LR3. I have scoured the forum looking for an answer, but couldn't find one.
Vehicle: 2008 LR3 SE with approximately 85000k. I'm the second owner and have had the vehicle for about a year. I have a local Indy LR mechanic who is kind enough to charge me labor if I supply the parts, and have trusted him with all our vehicles for years. Ot
After purchasing, let's call it day 4, I began to notice a subtle noise when decelerating. It's a soft whirring noise, not a whine. To me it sounds like gas moving through a pipe, almost ambient. I only notice it when decelerating and I can't hear it above the sound of the engine (accelerating or cruising) or the radio, or road noise. I've put about 10K on the vehicle since buying it, downtown city driving, highway, and off-road driving and it hasn't gotten any more pronounced. It never gets louder and it hasn't changed in tone. It is rotational and slows with the vehicle.
I listened/watched a bunch of you-tube clips about differential noises on the LR3, and have read a bunch of the posts about it on this forum. The sound doesn't match the diff noises I've heard, I doesn't seem to be coming from a distinct location. I had my mechanic check the diff fluids after being concerned and he said that they were fine. I haven't had the diff or transmission fluid changed yet.
I can't for the life of me figure out what this noise is. Not sure if I should be proactive in trying to fix the issue, or in the immortal words of Car Talk, "forget about it"
Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Typically it's diffs, bearings, T-case, alternator....and even the climate control (fan).
The fan is more like a whining....I think the alternator is too. I recently had a howl that got louder and louder and turned out to be a bearing in my T-Case but it was not rotational in nature...I mean it was (the output shaft rotates, after all) but I mean it was present (and constant) regardless of engine/tire speed and all that. If your mechanic has a set of chassis ears, he'll need to bring those out!
