Default LR3 TC engages at turns

Please help. My 08 LR3 HSE TC (I think) engages when I turn right at about 20-30 mph. The front wheels temporarily locks up until I slow down. Now, it's happening when I turn left as well. I recently replaced the left wheel bearing hub. I'm going to clean the ABS speed sensors tomorrow, but I don't think that's what it is. The sway bar tie and bushing seems fine. Anyone have had this problem before? Please help. Thanks.

Are you sure it is the transfer case engaging incorrectly? In my experience it's much more common for this phenomenon to happen when your steering angle sensor, alignment, and/or wheel speed sensors need calibration/repair - and it is the traction control system using the abs system to try to slow the outer turning wheels down incorrectly....

But that does feel like the abs is pulsing the brakes, not like the center diff isn't allowing enough slip, so it could of course really be a center diff/transfer case issue if it is the front wheels locking up / dragging as you go around turns, rather than the abs/traction control at fault.

You'll need a scan tool that is capable of displaying live data for all of the vehicles systems *and* the ability to diagnose and/or calibrate the transfer case in order to solve this issue with any sort of logical process.

I mean, it's possible sometimes to stumble your way into a fix without a real scan tool - I've done it plenty of times in the past - but that usually ends up costing more money and always more time in the end. And it's harder for us to help you without the appropriate data too....

Try switching off Dynamic Stability Control ,DSC, to see if that makes a difference.

I think the OP meant "Traction Control" when they typed TC; not Transfer Case. Good suggestion on the DSC. Also wonder about control arm bushings.

Thank you tracyc - I just scanned using my gap tool and steering angle is good. I just cleaned the ABS speed sensor (extremely dirty) and will give it a try and I will post an update. Thank you very much.

Reporting back. I disabled the DSC and it seems to work. Thank you guys. Any idea why the DCS is so sensitive; or am I just taking a curve to fast?

I have had mine activate from time to time when going around a corner. I didn't think I was going too fast in any of those cases. I was wondering if the GAP tool could reduce the sensitivity but have not investigated. Probably not as DSC is a safety thing. If yours is activating all the time my first thought would be a bad ABS sensor.

Thanks Gordo51. It happens every now and then, especially when I feel like I'm taking a curve or turn a bit fast. I was thinking about changing the ABS sensor to see if it'll improve any, but, I'm trying to take the cheapest approach first and increase it to replacing the sensor. I have the gap tool, but, haven't dug into the details.

The first time mine activated I was on a road trip far from home and was quite concerned but it was just an occasional occurrence. Quitebthe disturbing grinding noise when it activates a brake.
