I think he's referring to tow hooks?

Not tow hooks.

At the back of each front wheel well there are extensions of the frame. On early trucks they bolt on while on later trucks they're welded. They extend out slightly into the wheel well and are a common rub point when installing larger tires. Typically 265/65-18 will only rub slightly when at full lock and on some trucks not at all. 275/65 will rub on pretty much all trucks, though some people claim they've been able to run that size w/o rubbing there. Perhaps that's down to the difference in actual size of different tires.

Generally the rub isn't too bad, but the solution is to cut the fame horn off and plate it over with a piece of steel welded back in place. It's a pretty easy mod and you don't need to be a top-flight welder since it's not visible. You can gain 1/2, maybe 3/4 of an inch there by cutting. No bodywork is modified, just these 'horns' sticking out into the back/bottom of the wheel well.

Sorry I don't have any pics on hand, and of course mine are already cut back, though I may need to trim them more with the 33"+ tires going on.

My '05 doesn't seem to have these frame horns at all. I have a buddy that has an '08 and he had a rubbing issue there, so I know what they are and where to look. Mine either doesn't have them, or they are attached such that they do not protrude one bit.

I run 275/65s with the GAP tool and I don't rub there. Only place I rub once in a while is the FWD part of the rear wheel wells (I've hammered the body join flap flat) and that is only under full articulation.
