Default LR3 totaled out... keys worth anything?

So my baby sadly got totaled out by the boneheads at state farm (got rear ended), but we all know the risk of pouring money into our rigs that our insurance people view as scrap metal for the taking. Rant aside, I had bought 2 new cut fobs from the dealer, well now I have no use for them. Are the fobs of any value to someone who just needs a remote and not a key? Can they be programmed more than once?

Thanks.

They can only be programmed once, unless they are sent to a service to be wiped clean. Even then they can only be programmed to a vehicle that has an existing working key.

If all keys are lost, a new dealer bought virgin key is the only solution.

Can you wipe and reprogram with the GAP Abran?

Oh and sorry to hear about your LR3

No, I use a service. They do some eprom thing, leads have to be attached to the circuit board and a tool is used to erase the programming.

I looked into buying the tool, but it’s like 6k, then you need to figure out which component on the board you need to hook up to.

I would be interested in buying the keys, but only for the sake of the covers, not the guts. Is it possible to swap the internal items over to a new one?

I looked at my keys and I don't see a practical way in breaking the factory seam (lack of a better description)?

Then I will stick with what I have. The idea of new appearing buttons sounds cool, but not cutting into both of my factory key/fob's.

You can send your keys to abran. He can swap out your old case for a new case. He did that for one of our RRS. Works great. Phil.
