Lr3 towing a camper
I have recently purchased a 2008 V8 LR3. I have a 3000 lb camper and maybe towing an additional 300 lbs of load in camper.
Question, I have the stock lr3 trailer hitch and a camper hitch with sway control etc. which should I use? I noticed that with the stock hitch my chains do not reach. Not sure on other.
I read somewhere not to use sway control. Not sure why.
Some guidance would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I know what you mean about the lack of information regarding towing a trailer with an LR3. I researched the heck out of it and got so many mixed answers regarding sway control, weight distribution hitches, and other limitations.
I have a 2007 V8 LR3 and tow a 28 foot travel trailer that weighs about 5,900lbs and I use a Hensley Cub weight distribution hitch which has a patented integrated sway control design. Instead of using the Land Rover accessory 2" plug-in receiver, I had a Curt receiver installed. Note that you cannot install the Curt receiver if your vehicle has the "heavy duty" package as the full size spare tire gets in the way. My trailer has a 600lb tongue weight.
I'm not sure what you mean when you say "LR3 Trailer Hitch" and "Camper Hitch" Are you referring to the 2" receiver? Either way, I'd recommend going with your anti-sway set-up as this is safer than going without one.
Your LR3 will have no problem at all with 3,300lbs.

Thanks.
Anyone out there disagree.
I have read in other places that land rover recommends not using anything other than the stock hitch. Never could really find out why.
For now going with the other hitch. I am not overly knowledgeable about what the actual hitch is called but has the two tightening chains.
Thanks.

What are you unsure of exactly? This advice is coming from a company that sells it for almost 900 bucks. Here is a bit of reading for you. http://landroverhell.com/article/419...he-discovery-3

Ok. You are trying to tell me not to tow with the car side hitch. Is this right?
I am going camping in 1 week and do not have time to replace the current stock receptacle on the car side.
I have two ball choices, the one that comes stock with the car and one that has the added chains etc. which one should I use?
At this point neither is not an answer. And changing the mating car side is not an option.
I am planning on using the one with the side bars and chains and not the basic ball that came with the car. The problem is that I have read that this is not recommended but the stock set up is. Not sure why.
If I am still being stupid, which is very possible, please in lighten me.
Thanks.

I think option #2 that you are mentioning if I understand you correctly.
Just carefully inspect the whole assembly and be sure it is in good condition. You can carefully inspect the factory hitch pin, it sort of looks like a door latch. If you look up inside the receptacle from behind, you will see a hole towards the front of the vehicle.
That tow accessory has a pin that release in the Factory tow adapter pops into that hole. That is what holds it on. You can feel it once fitted to be sure it is all the way in. If you are using safety chains as well, it would be good. You can acquire safety chain extensions. Check at a towing shop.
