Default LR3 tranny swap

Hello everyone,

I've got a 2006 LR3 4.0 V6 SE. My trans threw a code of P0735- Gear 5 incorrect ratio while driving the other week. It's got 175,XXX miles on it and I was able to source a tranny with 90,XXX miles. Figured might as well. Just wanted to see if anyone has any input about replacing the transmission and anything I need to look out for or be aware of before I tackle this. I do have a few questions right out of the gate.

1. Does the TC need to be aligned in a specific direction with the Flex Plate or is it just a matter of getting it to seat on the splines and bolted together?
2. I've read that the mechatronics need to be swapped over from the original to the donor. Is it a good idea to replace all the solenoids once I've got everything out and will I need to reprogram the new solenoids.
3. If I decided to not swap over the mechatronics, is it possible to reprogram the trans to the car using the GAP tool or is it a dealer only type deal.

Any input, tips or comments would be greatly appreciated as I am planning on starting disassembly tonight!!!

Swap the mechatronic or you can code the new one to your car using the GAP tool , solenoids don't need programming they are just electric actuators.

For the sake of curiosity, what caused you to replace the transmission? I've been running with this code intermittently for 50k miles with no significant problems and I use the truck every day. Hell, I towed 4000lb the other day with it. Took it 250 miles. Kept off the interstate and under 60. While I'm keeping a tranny swap in the back pocket I see this code popping up as an indication of a low oil level, I add oil, it goes away. Assuming the swap went well, any advice for the next guy? I'm sure I'll be doing that sooner or later. Or a rebuild.
