LR3 "Transmission Fault" message on dashboard
#1

Many things can cause that message. Just today I installed an EDS#1 solenoid in a 2006 Rover. Last week in an X5, it was a set of E clutches. Before leaving work, I had to order a whole Mechatronics unit for a Jaguar S-type. All have the same 6HP26 trans and all had transmission faults.
The difference in all the repairs is that all had different codes stored, which is the first thing you need to check. That message comes on as a result of the Transmission Control Unit detecting a fault and logging a fault code. Knowing what this code is, will help point in the right direction. Many OBD-II code readers can read the transmission module, since it is considered an "emissions related ECU". Start by getting the fault codes.
