Default LR3 Transmission Sleeve replacment

Has anyone change this out? and if so how hard is it Land rover wants to charge me 180 for parts and 650 for labor. Sounds a little high to me I know that the trans oil is expensive and i understand that but if its not that hard to do ill do it myself your feed back is greatly appreciated. FYI the transmission sleeve only has a class I leak. so I have time to ffix it or save up the 850 Bucks.

Class 1 leak? You must be military, I have not heard that term since I was stationed at Ft. Stewart, GA.

$180 in parts sounds cheap to do the job correctly. The pan has to come off to do the sleeve and the filter is integrated into the pan, so its common practice to do the sleeve and pan at the same time. List price on the pan is $300 by itself, not to mention the $30/qt fluid.

The labor sounds dead on for a dealership (hourly rate at local LR dealer here is $140/hr, book time is about 4.6 hours).

Search around in this forum, I think there is a DIY posted on how to replace this stuff.

You can buy the parts from ZF (the manufacturer of your trans) for much cheaper than the dealer. ZF Parts Eriksson Industries

LR trans fluid for this vehicle is relabeled Lifeguard6. You can purchase Lifeguard6 cheaper.

If review of the shop manual leaves you with a lot of uncertainty, save up for the repair, hunt for an indy shop. You don't want to start a project, and leave yourself with no ride, and a big towing bill to the shop. You might not have the tools, work space, or available time.

I was on Tybee last week. Had to go to Savanah for work, so took the fam. A little cold, but a neat little place. Good shrimp. Ft. Polaski was pretty cool too. Went up the Charkeston on the way back and hit up Patriots Point and Ft Sumter. Good people down there.

Oh, and you have to jack up the engine to get the tranny pan out (tall, integrated pickup tube on the pan). If you do it yourself, be sure to let me know how it goes. I want to do it come springtime.

Where are you located, there are good indy shops all over the place. Maybe someone can recommend one.
