My guy said, the problem is internal to the transmission and it will need to come out to be fixed. It will continue to get worse.

Sorry I have to close out this thread without a conclusion. I was leaning towards having the transmission rebuilt (still a fairly expensive proposition) but in view of the relatively high mileage and other potential problems with this truck I opted to trade it as is, and move on. The good news is, I still love the Land Rover brand enough to give it another try and so now have a 2009 LR2. Thanks everyone for the input and I will still be hanging around the LR2 forum looking to learn about a different Land Rover.
