So, for moons, my front face vent has not worked. This is the ONLY part of the system not functioning correctly. I have heat/cooling and can make it work in the footwell, defrost, rear, etc.

I decided to spend my memorial day weekend trying to resolve this. Just for background
- The reset procedure didn't help.
-I found a used AC control module on ebay that i purchased - for fun - since the $50 was a fair price to pay for the small chance it actually helped me avoid going in for the blend door actuators.
- I have ALL five blend door actuators in my inventory (Joke, but I basically have a part of my garage with parts at this point). But I do have all the blend doors ready to put in.

Here is where I am at this moment.

I have wrestled with the car and I just about have EVERYTHING disassembled to access the actuators. It was more mentally painful than anything. (I took video - and will post at some point).

The question is - if you were a betting man/woman, WHICH actuator is actually the issue?

To re-state - I simply cant get the face vents to work. Logically, my eyes gravitate to what is labeled as "Face and Foot Distribution Motor".

But logic has never worked so - I'm coming to you all to see if you can validate my conclusions.

I think it is the bottom actuators for dash / defrost blending. The top ones are for temp control.

any clue how to access the actuator behind this duct? the duct does not seem to want to come out.

there are actually two motors behind it. the lower one, i got to. the one that is higher - seems impossible to get to. any suggestions ?

If the heat/cold works, you don't need to get to the top ones. There are actuators on both sides (left and right) of the HVAC unit those should be the doors the control the blending from foot /dash / windscreen.

 

well… the stepper motors have been conquered.
It was a long, but not hard process. So. many. steps. In the end, it was the motor on the driver side that controls that damper that goes to the footwell - the arm has become unattached.

the reassembly went much quicker, but i’m still not over the hump. the car will not move from park. The code says solenoid circuit is open, or something to that effect.

Any ideas? I’m guessing i just messed with something i shouldn’t have - the question is what, and where.

Brake pedal switch? That's my first guess, but maybe you've already checked that. That looks like one heck of a mess!

 

P-Bod is right, check the brake switch under the dash first. Also, I see yellow paint on the shifter, did you change that or was it there when you bought the car? Why was it changed out?
With engine on and your hand on the shifter, you should "feel the solenoid in the shifter disengage when you press the brake pedal. Is this happening? Check the connection at the right rear of the shifter to make sure it is fitted tight. You may have to use the emergency cable to get it into neutral and then put it back into park and see if it will disengage.

Other than that, I am out of ideas for today. I will keep thinking about it, maybe something will come to mind this afternoon.

Hi. I went to the Brake Light switch too. It arrived today. Will report back when it’s installed.

 

No dice with Brake Light switch. I’ll get in there and check the harnesses and see if i missed something. :/

 

Try to use the small cable by the shifter to get it into neutral. This may be a chance to see if the shifter is the issue or not. Once in neutral put it back into park and see if it will work then.
