Default Most Outrageous Dealer Part Prices

Well after speaking to my nearest dealer today to get price and availability of some parts I nearly spat out my coffee. I know it should not be a shock when you call a dealership for parts, but man they are just crazy and I thought it would be interesting to see what crazy prices others have been quoted.

Mine today were

1. Standard air filter $75 .

2. Retainer Clips for the top edge of the rear wheel arch $5.16 each for a crappy little bit of plastic and you have to buy a pack of 25! So that’s $129 for when I only needed 3 clips!

When I had my last LR3 3 years ago and I needed a rear diff, I asked the same dealer and their price and seem to recall the price being over $3K.

Certain items are outrageously priced compared to the market... others parts I've found are the same or even cheaper when shipping is considered.

To me it's always worth the call to check the dealer when needing parts... sometimes you get a pleasant surprise.

I actually have a dealer near my location (Land Rover of Chantilly) who quotes me ABOVE the retail price every time I have ever called them to ask for an estimate on parts! I mean, I know that some places (many in fact) will charge full retail price, but this is the first dealership I've ever seen that actually marks up the prices above the M.S.R.P. Crazy. Obviously, I visit another local dealer who has been great and often cuts 10-20% off for me.

I found the little amber cap for the trailer hitch receiver for ~$5!!! That was amazing to me. I thought it'd be $35 for sure.

I run into that as a wholesale customer some times. They jack up the "retail" price, so once my wholesale discount is calculated, it ends up being MSRP. I usually double check the prices before selling a job and I have some back up plans when things get crazy.

Oddly I picked up a part the other day from Ford that was cheaper than I could find it on Amazon for my Expedition.

>Factory rack was I believe a $2500 option.
>PCV was like $90
>cupholder inserts like $20 each
>pretty much any of the reservoirs for fluid were crazy

New diff? $5000
Refurb diff (also from dealer)? $3000

Oh and battery cover box was what, $100+?

Land Rover certainly isn't the worst, Bentley Continental Supersports spark plugs (NGKs) are $48 each, quantity of 12
