The appreciate hard work

The are willing to commit to something

They like staying home to spend time with us (since the rover won't start)
I agree but for a first car a small jap hatchback is much more reliable, cheaper to maintain and easier to get around in.
I would also consider an FL2 if it has to be a rover.

She'll likely have the car into early adulthood.

Do you really want her to be responsible for maintaining it and putting gas in it when she's building her life?

I'd let her choose something but explain that to her in so many words.

If my daughter ever asked for a LR3...l'd say..."When the time comes and you've completed school/college and get a nice paying job and you find that you can afford a LR3, then buy that."

"But, for now and since we are spending my money and you haven't accomplished much of my "to-do" list...l'll be deciding what vehicle fits a teenagers needs."

Conversation over.

Boy, times sure have changed some...couldn't imagine telling my folks what kind of car I wanted to drive. Fact is...l don't remember them buying me any...period...should have thrown more tantrums I guess. Oh course...that never ended like it does nowadays...and the first one...was the last...lol.

But her what you want...and don't explain it, don't bargain, jockey for position, negotiate, etc, etc. It's your money...it's your decision.

What we have done is, we buy our kiddos a car for around $8-10K for high school purposes. My son got a $45,000 academic scholarship so he gets a late model 4Runner before he heads off to college in the fall. But he has to keep his grades up and graduate.

My daughter is just a high school freshman, but when she graduates, we will buy her something really nice if she gets an academic or athletic scholarship. That's money in the bank actually, and a really good incentive. If she scores a volleyball scholarship, a late model RRS isn't even out of the question.

We have a 2015 RRS and have been quite happy with it, but I am not familiar with the LR3. I'd honestly prefer to buy her an older 4Runner, but it doesn't have the "cool factor" that the Land Rover has.

Am I completely nuts buying an LR3 for a teenager?
Yes! Of course you're nuts... You gotta be nutty, marriage, kids, and a Land Rover.... You're insane buddy.

I too have a daughter and completely understand. I ended up giving mine my old company suv (some years back, she's now 26 & married), an 04 Tahoe z71 with AWD.

Get her a new KIA AWD Sportage

Will you adopt me?

Round here a little car is a bit of a death sentence. Lot if bad drivers in big vehicles
