New to Me LR3 with some issues
Hi All
I bought an 08 SE with a 103k miles on it about 2 months ago. Have loved the truck so far but have noticed a couple of possible issues with it I wanted to pick your expert brains on.
First- air suspension. I think I have read about every thread I could find on here regarding issues with the system. Over the past couple of weeks I have noticed the when I shut the truck off it appears to be dropping down to almost access mode level, which seems to be father then what the normal “settling” air bleed off I saw originally. Not long after I got the truck I did the whole off-rod height and pulled the fuse. Over the course of sitting there a week I lost about 1/2 inch at each tire. Only sat that long since the morning after I pulled the fuse we had to take our other car to the hospital for the birth of my son! I guess my question here is how much air bleed off is normal on **** down? Most of the dip in the truck is in the front which is making me think it may be the front valve?
Second - I have noticed a noise coming from the front end of the vehicle when accelerating from a stop. The noise is move of a whine that sounds as if something is winding up, I can also “feel” the noise through the steering column. I hear it whether or not the a/c is on. I had the truck checked out by my local indie shop after I bought it so don’t think it’s anything with the control arms. Thinking something with the drive shaft or transmission?

idk....half an inch after a week doesn't seem abnormal to me. If it's raising and lowering fine and not faulting, I wouldn't hassle it. If you suspect a leak you can pull out the soapy water spray bottle.
That noise could be a lot of things. I was thinking front diff when I first started reading but feeling it through the steering column, hmmm, maybe hub/bearing?

Since replacing all of the valve blocks I haven't had any loss in height even over extended periods. Still on the original air bags with 150K on my 2006. I replaced the compressor at the same time as the valve blocks, but logic (to me) dictates the valve blocks made the difference, and replacing the compressor fixed a seperate issue
Ditto, probably valve blocks. In theory, the system should never drop if its 100% perfect. The biggest issue is the compressor desiccant. There is a drier, to pull pointer form the air, on the compressor. Inside is the desiccant material. Its breaks down and develops a powder that can enter the system. These fine particles can get caught on the o-rings in the valve blocks and thus cause a leak. You can clean the valve blocks, but given the age a rebuild would be better. But really, the compressor drier needs to be addressed first. Then wait a few weeks form some of the powder to work out of the lines, only then repair the valve blocks. Cost for o-ring kit is about $35. New valve blocks, over $100 each (there are three).
The noise - no clue.

When I purchased my 07 HSE the Suspension pump had not been used as the PO installed 22 inch rims (now have 18's) and never operated it. Had it replaced with LR4 pump, been good since, no drops at all. Air bags are good and if they need to, they will simply be replaced. I have to go to access mode to enter the garage (roof rack) so the pump does get use every day.
