Default New A-Pillar trims and the DHB500400 kit

I am installing new A-pillar exterior trim moldings.

I also bought the DHB500400 repair kit for TSB LA-501-006

From what I can see, the repair kit is just for my old battered A-pillar moldings and should be even used on the new kit as per the instructions of the kit it says to completely cut off the lower locator pin and put the included adhesive over the alongated hole at the bottom of the a-pillar.

The new a-pillar trim moldings seem to have updated push clips all the way down it.

Am I correct in assuming I do not even need the kit and just save it with the old molding if I need in the future?

Thanks

And by the way, the lowest clip is a nightmare. Can't even seat them with a rubber mallet. Broke one already.

Any tricks?

Yes, new ones should have the locating pins removed. But you still need to fill the holes. Really the kit is mainly for new clips which break easily. For me the rubber mallet worked wish great concern about breaking the windshield. Maybe have someone apply pressure then whack it. It may simply be bouncing back out.

So remove the lower sponge and the locator pin as per the directions in the TSB, then just snap them on. Correct?

I am not going to use the silly stickers in the kit. I will use the same aluminum sealant tape I used on the air intake under the new cowl I installed. Seemed to be better material and sticker to me.

There should be no lower pin on the new ones. Unless they are old stock, if so then yes. I left my sponge things in place though. The main issue is water getting into the locating holes.

must be old stock. The lower locator pin doesn't seem to be the issue. It's the lower clip I can't seem to get in. When I hit one side with a mallet, the lower clip broke, not the lower locator pin.

And yes, they were lined up correctly

wound up breaking one of the top locator pins and said %&^%&

Cut off all locator pins, put aluminum sealant tape over all the locator pin holes. Snapped right in place.
