I've just received a replacement Hitachi style compressor along with all the fittings and one way valves etc to replace the one I have installed which is toast. My question is that the new one came with a small 12 push fit relay.

My assumption is this may be for those who are changing from the AMK style to the Hitachi style, but do not know for sure.

Does anyone know if a 12 relay should be replaced or added if just changing out the Hitachi style units.

Never mind my initial question, I have found out its just a spare relay in case the one in the engine bay fuse box is faulty

 

The relay was a recommended change due to how much strain it goes though when a compressor dies. So the thought is that is a compressor goes the relay may be burned up a bit and fail, so a new one is just a good idea but not required.
