Default OEM Trailer Hitch Seated? Or Death Trap?

I recently got an OEM quick release trailer hitch, the hitch functions perfectly fine and it engages when the pin is pressed and all that but when I insert it into the vehicle, it clicks and seems happy so I want to say "no problem" because the key locks and removes, and the red is covered by the green handle...
except that the latch doesn't engage "out" from the main hitch as far as I would assume it would AND there is an LR4 in the neighborhood that has a tow hitch seated with a much higher angle of the green handle (indicating that it perhaps does actually fully extend).

So I'm torn here... is mine seated ok or am I insane and it needs another 1/8" of protruding out the back the be safe for a 2400 mile road trip towing???

Pictures attached - Again mine is the LR3, but included a snap of the local LR4 with hitch handle angle for reference.

Thoughts? Is there a difference in the LR3 to LR4 or is my hitch not properly seated???

my **** green thing is def more horizontal than the LR4 example - but more upright vertical 10:00 than yours
(cue the jokes)

Maybe age corrosion is interfering a bit, but w/o hearing the "clunk" in person and feeling testing how firm stiff rigid solid it is, I can't say if it's safe or not
(sigh)

Thanks I appreciate that. I did some scraping and even used a little wd40 to help lubricate and that got it a little better seated but, yeah, seems like there might still be some room for it to seat more confidently despite the red being fully "covered" and the keys coming out.

Curious if anyone else has some experience and insight on this as well!

here is a pic of my green thing

if your key releases, you might be fine?
green thing orientation might be more variable than expected

Sweet thanks for that pic! I sure wish the documentation for this was more concrete so that we didn't have such a wide berth to assume/wonder whether or not towing is going to be a problem. Manual just says that when keys come out and with no red showing, that it's good to go.

Guessing you've towed like this without issue or concern?

The key coming out with no red showing seems like it should be fine, but not really a thing I feel like rolling the dice on just hoping I'm right lol. Probably going to do more filing away of corrosion and see if that helps seat it more and hopefully I can get mine up (lol) closer the the 10 or 11 position for peace of mind.

Yep multiple tows over 5k lb no issues

I love the removable hitch - there when you need it, gone for off-roading and non-weathering storage

Disco 4 hitch is shorter so sits higher than the plow design of the D3 hitch which is why post that tow regularly swap to the D4 or aftermarket hitch.
