Default Overheat

Took my 2006 lr3 into shop,found out I need a new oil cooler so I'm waiting on part,drove it down the road and gauge shot up to red and white smoke started blowing out of engine,what could this mean???

What did they do at the shop? Any actual work? And why would you need a new cooler - its a pretty robust small thing.

But if temps rose and she is blowing white smoke out the exhaust then there is a very good chance its a head gasket failure. If the smoke is located in the engine bay, it sounds like a major coolant leak. How long did you run it hot?
