Default visible smoke from muffler

my 2000 disco is putting out visible smoke while i am driving. is this normal? i took it to the emissions and it passed luckily. but on the requirements, it said that smoke could not be visible for more than 10 seconds. should i be worried?

I want to add, that white smoke is no longer coming out. Does white smoke come out when it is really cold?

Yes, be worried.
Check your coolant level, you most likely have a blown head gasket.

This is the theme for DII's. Head gaskets are like timing belts, you WILL be replacing them.

Sounds like your truck is getting ready for some head gaskets.
Go to your mechanic next week and don't drive it much in the mean time to prevent any additional damage.

I'm with you. I'm **** about keeping up with things. I probably have the only defender without a leak that looks as good underneath as up top. Head gaskets are not that big of a deal. Actually gets me out of the house and up to the shop to drink beer with my friends for a day.

It will help if you can tell us the following:
[ul][*]Mileage on the engine.[*]How much coolant are you adding every week.[*]Is it running hot or did it overheat lately.[*]Is it emitting water vapor on startup when cold or is it doing it all the time.[/ul]
