Either I did it wrong or there is no leak.

Ran a lot of smoke through it, starting at the air box. Removed the oil filler cap to ensure it would come out that end which it did. No other smoke seen.

Cleaned it all up and doubled checked for cracks on the resonator - there are none. Ensured the gaskets are properly seated and all other connections are right.

Reset the values again and so far no code. I've not driven it far tho so we will see.

Again, I'd look into direct cleaning or replacing your injectors. Replacing mine when one failed is what finally cleared up my intermittent/persistent lean condition.

There's a kit you can get to hook up to the fuel rail and run a cleaner through w the engine running. Or you can remove them and clean them manually, or with an injector cleaning machine, or, best, send them out to be professionally checked and cleaned. I had one fail so I replaced them with a refurbed flow matched set.

Op: did you replace injectors? Did that work?

I’m in the same boat as you and have done all the same steps

Did not replace the injectors.

Went to the local shop and got a $20 bottle of some crazy strong cleaner and ran it through the tank. Fixed it immediately and has not come back. Can't remember the name of the product but as soon as I do, I'll post it. It's not something found in a local auto parts store.

BG 44K Platinum is the (platinum) standard for fuel injector cleaners. You can find it online but not in stores for some reason, it was probably this. I found a JLR mechanic PowerPoint once that actually suggested it’s use in AJV8 engines for cleaning injectors.

I feel you man, been through this multiple times and want to add to the knowledge. One fix is to tighten the egr return pipe that runs from the egr valve on the front driver's side of US/petrol engines to the back drivers side of the engine. It's a metal pipe held on by what I think are two 15mm nuts on the back of the engine above the transmission.

On my truck the hot/cold expansion of normal driving backs those nuts out about 1/4 turn by the end of the year. This creates a leak at the back of the engine that can introduce air to the intake on the front end only when the EGR valve opens up. You won't see smoke from a smoke test because the EGR should be closed at idle. Tricky little bugger.

I unnecessarily swapped out the egr valve on my 06 several years back and noticed the metal pipe the EGR bolts into was way too wobbly for what appeared to be a very sturdy metal pipe. I tapped on said pipe with a screwdriver and felt vibrations to trace down where it attaches. Now it's a routine. Each year when the weather gets really cold, the lean codes return until a crawl back there and give 1/4 turn.

Wow-
I have not heard this one for the Codes. I have been fighting with it costing roughly 2500 in repairs to no avail. I replaced MAP MAF sensors, Cleaned Throttle body new gaskets on EGR and throttle body, fuel injector cleaning, professionally & at home. Countless hours of research and attempts to fix- days in the shop. My new effort are replacing the fuel injector gaskets- and now I will check the EGR pipe.
I would not mind so much, but where I live, to register your car, you need an emissions test. They automatically fail you if you have a check engine light on or throw the codes. After months of effort and bureaucratic red tape, I was finally able to get a waver to get the LR3 Registered (fortunately she is slow as hell, so little concern on the roads from the cops). It has been challenging, with even the LR indy shops having no clue. They tend to dismiss my suggestions even when I begin discussing options. Whomever designed this with that level of sensitivity is an idiot - I wish I could send them a bill! (hence the stereotypes of land rovers continues :-)
Thanks for EGR pipe insight!

I'll be checking the EGR pipe today or tomorrow now that I'm off work. The codes have been gone for a while, however this morning came back with a vengeance!

Fired it up to run the kids to school and got 9 codes. All misfire then the lean codes. There was a slight rough idle which I noticed a few other times - never codes before.

Today's list of fun:
  • P0301-00 (A8) - Cyl 1 misfire detected
  • P0307-00 (A8) - Cyl 7 misfire detected
  • P0303-00 (A8) - Cyl 3 misfire detected
  • P0305-00 (A8) - Cyl 5 misfire detected
  • P0308-00 (A8) - Cyl 8 misfire detected
  • P0300-00 (A8) - Random misfire detected
  • P0316-00 (A8) - Misfire detected on start-up - first 1000 revolutions
  • P0171-00 (AA) System too lean - bank 1
  • P0174-00 (AA) System too lean - bank 1
I have a new LR EGR gasket and LR TB gasket ready to install. Not sure what else to do now.

A few weeks ago I ran a fuel trim vs. throttle position recording on the IID tool. I've attached that and the codes above for someone smarter than me to tell me what the heck I should look at now. Truck is currently enjoying the garage, awaiting a wrench.

Any and all help would be appreciated.
