How did the Mann filter fit, I tried the Wix, which fits, but it's missing the flaps that prevent air from going around it. It also whistles slightly at times.

Mold most likely means you are getting water under your cowl, so check it for warping just above the cabin air filter, where it apparently is designed to warp.
