Portable Carplay/AndroidAuto Screens - Anyone use them?
I don't want to go to the effort/cost of swapping out the stereo to a third party head unit, it's just overkill for the convenience to me - plus I want to keep the dash fully original for now.
I can and will use my phone on a low profile magnetic mount with an aux cable or a bluetooth connection to a third party device for sort of day to day, not much hardware, easy to use music/directions and whatnot.
But has anyone here used these portable mountable screens in their rover for larger, more modern, temporary nav/music system before?
If so, I'm curious if anyone crafted a clever solution for it not to be obnoxiously in the way? Since it requires cables for power and for aux (or FM transmitter removes one cable) it might be nice to have something that is easy to remove when say, I'm driving an hour out of town to a campsite and fire road that I'm reasonably familiar with, but to put it in place for longer highway road trips for larger adventures.
Here's a review of one:

I personally don't know that I care for the windshield mount, but I've seen a lot of in-dash mounts in photos of people's LR3s. Wonder if there's a way to set one up with enough clearance to hold the carplay monitor when desired, but also be not-in-the-way enough that if the carplay screen is stashed, the in dash mount isn't a giant hazard in the front seat. Also, if setup for the magenetic carplay display it might also be able to double as a passenger iPhone magnetic holder when empty.

Anyway, just taking a temperature reading here in case anyone has tread this path already.
As always, cheers!

I like having the OG nav screen in my 2008 (especially since it has a backup cam already) so I'd be doing this as an extra screen just to modernize for road trips, but man if I had the SE open cubby up top instead of the nav screen I'd definitely figure out a cool way to run the cables and make this my "nav screen" but with a secret little cubby behind it - that's actually a very cool idea.

Not done it myself as my SE model didnt have sat nav so it was a simple upgrade, 2nd screen is just a cheap 7" reverse camera monitor connected to the head unit video output. A little better viewing positing when using the GPS or reversing camera, i have a front facing camera i will add on the 2nd input.
Very curious to hear some more details about this! Did you install it yourself or take it somewhere? Did you go wireless or wired carplay? If wireless, how well does it work? Can you play videos on it? What features do you have/not have from the Naviplus "potenital but not all features included on every model" list?
I really have a crush on this setup. And honestly, I kind of love imagining a CarPlay screen with the low resolution compared to modern screens. Like a funny 8 bit interpretation of something fancy.
