I came across a LR3 SE V8 that looks interesting. The one and only key is missing. It will need dealer intervention for a new key. Has a nice roof rack and aux lights. Exterior and interior looks good, not great. According to the seller, it needs a key and programming, possible front u-joint, not sure exactly he is talking about. It is a SE, so no navigation or on-screen systems. It has new shocks at all four corners and a new suspension compressor.
Is there a way to check for codes without a key? I assume not. This is literally a "bring a trailer" purchase. Might be a decent purchase.
Quick update, we have two local dealers. One wants $515 for the key blank and $95 to program, the other wants $315 and $195 to program. Of course, the closer one is the more expensive.........There are also outstanding DMV fees. More details to follow. I did see a key shop in Maryland that will provide and program keys, The Keyless Shop.

So a bit more information. Current owner had the key stolen. Truck is overall in average condition.
Mileage: Records show it has around 155k miles.
Engine: Coolant reservoir is low on coolant, down 1/2 quart. Oil, is low a quart, needs a change. Newer battery. No leaks.
Suspension: Has 4 new shocks and a new shock compressor. Has new lower control arms right and left side, owner claims uppers were done at the same time, I couldn't see to verify.
Interior: Interior was a bit dirty for me, but wouldn't bother most people. No tears on the interior. A couple of small dash cracks, has a dash pad installed.
Exterior: Exterior has a scrape on the left rear, broken the taillight and missing right rear wheel-well trim. Small dent on the front right just behind the bumper. Missing right fog light.
Add-ons: Has a Baja Rack, full-sized in decent shape, needs a paint touch up on the front edge. Has a ladder in the back. Has four LED lights mounted on the rack, front-facing.
Wheels and Tires: Has some nice dark brown wheels (receipt from Discount Tires for the wheels, $1,200) and BF Goodrich tires, three are good, one needs to be replaced.
Has been sitting since January 2020. Registration is overdue. Clean title.
Body and interior will clean up with a couple of days of work and 8 hours with a Flex Buffer. New taillight and $1,000 in body work and paint. Key/Remote are on backorder due to Covid, no eta. Local key shop can make a new remote/key for $400 (so they say). It Don’t have any idea what this is.
will need a driveshaft, u-joint or CV axle, won't know for sure. Then, once key is in hand, will it start? Owner claims that it ran well before the key was stolen. Who knows for sure.
Good news, owner seems very motivated to sell, he is asking $2,500. He is probably $1,000 high for me. Not to mention that my wife would not be happy........

so i passed on the LR3 i have too many projects and my wife wasn't thrilled with me getting another one i told a buddy about it and he pounced he paid $900. the story continues we will see what happens when he gets a key. phil
epilogue - while loading the LR3 on a trailer, the winch broke. The truck was just about fully on the trailer. It rolled down and smacked into the car in the next parking space.......messed up the bumper on the parked car, LR3 hardly had a scratch. I have the video, but can't upload it here. Maybe that was an omen. Anyway, I will keep the thread alive when the truck gets to Phoenix and they get a key for it.
