Default Rear seat AUX input fixing

Hiya!

This (photo) is the input for the AUX input that sits on the center console, facing the rear passenger seats. (You would also see the power/cigarette lighter outlet in the same place.) I get sound through there, but it's a bit static-y because the jack doesn't clip well in that input; if you leave it to it's own devices, you just get random cut out of some of the volume, then it comes back. If you happened to just hold the jack in place, it's fine, but of course, no one does that. I see a number of these devices for sale secondhand on eBay, but there's no telling if I get one with the same issue.

1) Anyone know if this part (XVO500020) for sale new or tested and reconditioned outside of going through Land Rover? Don't seem to see anything. EDIT: Of course, before I posted, I did look. Now I see one on a website, not sure if I can post the name of it without getting the post rejected as spam or something, but I see it at $105 purportedly new.

2) It looks like I should be able to unclip that black input from the rest of the housing, but nothing gives when I push a small screwdriver on the side, so maybe not. I've looked to replace that AUX piece completely, if I could find just that part to replace it by heating the solder on the PCB and putting a new AUX input, but I don't see this particular thing for sale on electronics part websites. Has anyone fiddled with this small part that has advice?

Any ideas?

It is soldered on the underside, should be able to find a replacement socket.

I dont think that is a common issue so I would not hesitate to get a used one. Have you tried blasting it out with electric parts cleaner? My thought is something is stuck in there or someone maybe spilled some sticky soda in there. If you are the DIY creative type, you could always just move the jack like I did. Up front is SO much nicer but in doing so the rear was disabled. For some reason I could not get both ports to work. I have suspicions that the rear port may not be just straight wired to the head unit and must filter through some basic electronics or something.

DakotaTravler: Ah yeah, good call trying the electrical contact spray, I am gonna give that a shot since I've got some of that. Having the aux connector on the front would be so much better, I'll troll the forum for tips on that, I know I have seen stuff posted about customizing the panel, like you've got right there.

loanrangie: Yeah, I could replace the socket, that was my first thought, I have the solder iron and solder, but I'm not sure which company would have that socket. I could go to the Grainger store in our area to visually match it if they have something similar, but it's a 90m-2hr round trip. When I search electrical supply catalogs for aux sockets, I'm overwhelmed with a lot of results that are not at all similar.

thanks for the ideas!

I had to swap mine out a few years ago. Kids broke it somehow. I think I got a used one from Ebay. Easy swap. You might consider getting an entire rear console, they are not expensive. For example, https://www.ebay.com/itm/325389538020 That way, you would also get some spare wiring.

As DT suggested it would be easier to add a socket in the dash, i put one in the panel that holds the 12V sockets but removed it when i replaced the head unit. The small red/black plug on the LH side of head unit has the wiring for the aux so its easy to hook into it there.

I replaced the whole stupid thing with one of these, and never looked back! so much better in every way.
I even soldered a new AUX jack input to it, and it fits under the stock panel and looks 100% OEM - but with streaming audio and normal volume levels!

https://www.ebay.com/itm/224074266685

edit: I did permanently connect both grounds (the "switching" function LR build into the stock jack) but in the future will connect to a rocker switch, so I can manually select the "switching" function as needed.
