Default Rear storage unit.

I did start this a while ago but wasn't sure how i wanted to execute it, originally was going to use 25x25mm aluminium tube with plastic connectors but it would use a lot space since you can only make square a rectangular shapes.
Decided steel was a better choice as i could make any shape i needed and use smaller tube, 13m of 13x13 x1.8mm found its way onto the roof rack and i made a start the next day.
I already had the plywood for the top so mocked up the height i would need to clear my fridge, taking into account that the Disco floor slopes to the rear with a drop of about 25mm front front to rear.
Also needed to tilt the fridge slide back so once fully extended it would clear the lower tailgate, i made up the base frame but soon realised that to get the rigidity i needed i would need more steel or even go up a size in tubing.
Luckily i kept an off cut from an old roof rack that a mate and i went halves in years ago which had just enough long pieces to remake the base frame, i then cut down the other frame to become the top frame.
Slide is one i made for my old D1 and i just based the rest around it,on the left i will make a lipped tray on slides with a large removable plywood box.
I will be using turn buckles onto the tie down points to secure it since the frame sits right over the bolts, i made it so it can be removed easily and is quite light.

Wow, thats really nice! I made a module for camping too, but took a different approach as is only sit on one side since I sleep in the truck. Besides a fridge, it has a stove, sink and storage also. Handy to have when camping and modules like that are great since you are not modifying the truck permanently.

Yeah it had to be able to be removed easily. I don't like the traditional double drawer units with fridge on top , not very practical and the drop fridge slides are bulky and expensive. This fits with how i use the vehicle and can be changed easily, i will make a chuck box style kitchen that fits on a tray and also a large plain box for when i don't need the kitchen. Hoping to incorporate some power sockets and switches, there is also space behind the fridge that will fit a 20ltr water container with maybe a small pump and a water outlet at the front.
