Default Refilling the coolant, bleeding etc.

Hi - I have the RAVE coolant file procedure. Are there any other tips in conjunction with this that people have found to work?

1) Should I fill the radiator via the upper hose with coolant in addition to filling through the expansion tank?
2) The manual makes no mention of the bleed screw. Should I be using this to burp the engine?
3) Is there any benefit to raising the drivers side to the tank is the highest part (like the D2 procedure)

Or is it really a matter of fill - rev to open thermostat - shut down - fill expansion - wait - repeat?

With my 2007 LR3 4.0 V6 we just filled the expansion tank and squeezed the hoses until we didn't see any more bubbles, and after taking it for a test drive the expansion tank level was down so it took about 1/2 litre (1/2 US quart). The heater controls were set to highest heat but I don't know if that makes any difference because I think blend doors are opened/closed and there is no flow cutoff of fluid through the heater core. We did not touch the bleed screw, perhaps someone else has a better or more accurate explanation...

I use a vacuum bleeder. Been using for about 15 years and would never consider doing it any other way. If you have to work on two or more cooling systems, consider buying one.

thanks. I have seen these - very interesting!

Tell me - does the rubber stopper and the valve mechanism fit over the expansion tank? (as there is no cap on the radiator...)

I have cooling system adapters that screw to the tank in place of the tank and then I also have a universal stopper that goes inside the neck of the tank and expands out to seal.

Agreed. Perfect fill every time. Well worth the cost.

Just did the same on my 2006 4.0 V6 a couple weeks back and also had great results.
