Just went through that. Mine leaked after getting hit by a BIG rock in the freeway. Dealer charged $4980.00 to replace. Yes the head liner has to come out. I turned it into my insurance so I should just be out my deductible. BUT, if it had not been leaking........... I would have sprayed it up with flex seal as a back up and left it in.
Your car do as you want, but there is a reason the labor was $2200.
Let us know how it turns out.

Sounds like you got screwed, @Rufflyer . I got mine replaced last year. I paid $500 (insurance deductible) but it would have otherwise cost under $2500 total. I saw all the costs. Best to find an independent shop that can do it. Also, the headliner doesn't need to be removed. That's true for the D2 but not the LR3.

I only paid the deductable
I did not actually get screwed.
I went to the 5 places recommended by the insurance agent and none of them wanted to do it. I told the agent I was taking it to the dealer, they said OK just submit the bill when done. Well it the big issue was I had to wait because it was delayed 3 weeks to get the glass from the UK.
Money aside, I still believe that it is not leaking, just leaver it alone.

Well I learned removing the glass DIY is almost impossible.
I believe you need the specialized tool that windshield glass repair shops use. The kind that has a crank and moves the wire around the perimeter of the glass to cut the seal. The inexpensive tool to pass a wire through the seal and have two persons cut the seal would be a very difficult task.
I was hoping to use a multi-saw tool from the inside to cut the seal but this did not work.
I'm not sure how the glass would be removed from the outside without damaging the paint.
My glass does not leak and I'm leaving it alone. I wanted to at least give it a try and see if I could do it.
