I bought a full length Front Runner rack as I got it used for half price. I think it is well made and the channels along the 2 inch high side rail make it easy to attach stuff like awnings or tie down rings. On the negative side the side rails can make it harder to attach an RTT. I had to install spacers under my Autohome tent as it extends over the side rails. When I added an awning later I had to lift up the tent to install the mounts on the side rail and also make taller spacers. As for weight on the roof, I think LR say 150kg/300lb. My tent is about 150 lbs. plus th rack weight. Never had an issue offroad.
Its entirely dependent on what you use it for. Personally I like the look of the baskets (again camel trophy and personal preference). I agree with Dakota about the advantages of basket! I'm not as worried about things falling off while I'm driving (still somehow lost a folding table on the hwy, but that's a story for another time). I've used my roof rack to fend off trees while rock crawling and saved my roof several times. I have a solar panel on my roof and a ham radio antenna both of which are protected by the basket. On the LR3 I have the factory roof bars for a roof top tent for overlanding! I love it but the wind noise is awful. I don't mind the noise but my passengers often complain.
After writing this I realize you could also just get a basket attachment.... best of both worlds but have to store an additional piece when not in use.
