Default Rough idle when coming to a stop in drive.

Hi all,

2006 LR3 HSE V8 here.

When coming to a stop while in gear, the RPM's drop to around 500 or so then work their way back to normal range with a little hesitation.

I've done some Google'ing and have read IAC or throttle body needs cleaning / replacement.

However, when I put the vehicle into Neutral right before coming to a stop, I don't have this problem.

Is this transmission related? Possibly in need of a tranny flush? Vehicle has just hit 100k miles. I purchased it 10k miles ago so it's possible it hasn't been done, since from what I've read it's recommended to wait until 150k miles? (wtf)

Cheers!

There can be a hesitation when coming to a complete stop and then getting right back on the gas. A software update can alleviate some of the system but I think it's a quirk inherent to our Landies.

A flush would not hurt if it hasn't been done. I would recommend taking it to a reputable transmission shop and have them check it over. They have much more updated training (generally) than even the dealerships do. The software updates I would leave to the LR techs however....

I would recommend cleaning the throttle body first. Sounds like a classic symptom. Putting it in neutral probably only changes the variables affecting the throttle body enough to make the issue go away. Plus, cleaning the throttle body is easy and free if you do it yourself. Better to start there than start with expensive transmission work. If it doesn't fix it, then you might want to start looking elsewhere.

Clean your throttle body, MAF sensor and check the condition of your air filter. Those are easy to check and cheap for the cleaners. Also I would do a drain and refill of the transmission now, most say it is good to do at 100k. You can have the pan changed out if you want as well, but that is a lot more work. From what I have been told it's not a good idea to flush these transmissions.

Thanks guys. Hoping the throttle body cleaning does the trick. Will report back once I get around to it.

Cleaned the throttle body and the MAF. Idles just fine now in all conditions. (Coming to a stop, changing gears, turning A/C on, putting load on the alternator, etc.)

Thanks guys
