Default Rubbing almost like bad brakes rotors

About a week ago out of nowhere my 2006 LR3 started having a rubbing metalic clunk noise from the front left wheel and usually only when I was driving a gradual left, turning slightly left or around a bend. The rubbing/clunking picks up with speed and goes away when pressing the brakes or turning right, bearing right.

I took the tire off this morning to check if a wheel baring is the culprit but there was no back and forth movement of the assembly - stiff as a rail.

I replaced the pads which were due for a replacement anyhow hoping it was a pad/rotor skid.

Still having rubbing-clunking still from the left side. I've heard CV joints go before and it doesn't sound like it to me. Would the differential be making this sound?

Also not hearing the noise when revving in neutral or in park.

Thanks for any and all help.

Aaron

Default mine was a wheel bearing

I had the same issue on the right front. No it did not move when I tried to make it wobble by hand. When under a turning load it would grind. A trip to the parts store and 2 hours later..no more noise.

Hope this helps.

My guess would be bearing as well, keep in mind, the weight of the truck is a lot more pressure than you're putting on it with your hands, not to mention it is easier to have play during rotation.

Aside from when a boot has been torn, and the joint ran dry, I have not seen one of these CVs fail.

The diff can absolutely make noise, but it is generally going to be more so speed/load dependent, not so much turning or hitting the brakes.

I have also seen the rotor backing plate bolts come loose and cause grinding type noises.
