I am retiring in June at 63 and my wife and I have decided to sell my wife's 2005 LR3 ( Silver black interior 114k miles non smoker Excellent )
Our mechanic tuned it up replaced brake pads front and rear changed the engine oil and I put a complete new suspension with the recommended conversion to springs and struts from the OEM air bags approx 10k ago I have all the service records and it looks and runs like new w regular oil changes and trans and diff flushes prior to recommended intervals The truck has only been off road once !
Our girl though just developed a problem maybe she doesn't want to go to a new home !
A brake line for the drivers side rear brake is leaking fluid The brakes still work but the pedal is spongey and I have needed to add brake fluid
I have it advertised in auto trader for $7900 OBO it has many options including the Bose sound system jump seats etc the original sticker was $53 K
Our mechanic said that replacing the brake line on our car was beyond his skill ?? And a big job
Accordingly I wanted to please ask the forum if anyone knows what the repair generally should cost ( so I can tell potential buyers) and also do you know any shops in Western PA or Eastern Ohio who can replace the line I Called the dealer in our area and they told me that they would only replace ALL the brake lines not just the damaged one and that I should trade my car in for a new Rover ! A Big Help ! Thank you in advance for any advice !

I called a Rover mechanic recommended by a forum member in Cleveland and he told me any competent mechanic can change the line its a messy job but straightforward THANK YOU for the referral !

I'm on the wrong side of the country to offer any help on a mechanic, but I'm not sure why it's beyond your guy's abilities. Should be fairly straight-forward. I suspect it's more likely he simply doesn't want to do this particular job for whatever reason.

Is it a hard line or a rubber line that's leaking? I would guess rubber but since you're in the rust belt I suppose it could be steel. If rubber, here's an idea of parts cost - you can see that no single line is more than $50. The whole kit is less than $200. You'd have a little extra cost in brake fluid; let's say $50 to be generous. A professional mechanic should be able to do all the rubber lines on a lift in perhaps 3 hours (I haven't actually looked at this job but that seems like plenty of time) so let's guess at PA labor rates and say $300. So as a spit-ball estimate you could figure around $5-600 at an indy.
