Should Fuel Tank Cover and Filter be Replaced at 190k Miles ?
Hi..I notice some cars require a Fuel Filter change every so often
On LR3 V8 4.4 seems to be a little vague.
Our car has 190,000 Miles on it.
Should the Fuel Tank Cover and Filter be changed
as a maintenance thing?
Maybe will increase Fuel mileage back to where it once was?
Part #WCG500130G or #WCG500130
Thank you.
I guess I dont see why you would change the cover, its literally just a cover/interface for the pipes and electrics. So I would contact them for clarify on what they mean by "filter". The cover itself has no filter. The actual filter sits on top the swirl pot which is a container the pump sits it. Its a pot that is filled with venturi pumps on the front and rear of the tank to keep the pot full of fuel. The electric pump then pulls fuel from a pre-filter/screen at the bottom of the swirl pot and pumps it into the large filter that sits on top. From there the fuel is fed to the engine. The filter is fairly large and incredibly hard to find on its own unless purchased in bulk.
Also you need to know which fuel pump you have, there was a change associated with a recall.
Below is a pic of the fuel pump for a 4.4 V8. The filter sits on top and you can a couple of the clips on the side that hold it. If you look closer you can see the pump sits in the middle and has a pipe that comes out to feed the filter. Then the other pipe to the engine through the cover.
How much time to replace this part ?
Any danger of damaging anything else in the process?
The guy suggested after this long 190,000
Miles it probably would best to change this part as well as the fuel filter as it is plastic..sorry I didn't answer earlier.
I would set aside a day. Half day with help. Unless the tank has fuel in it, then its a real pain to handle. VERY low fuel? Not too hard at all really. I did mine in extended off-road height, did not have to jack the truck up.
If you replace the plastic interface/cap. You should replace the green gasket. Just a good idea given its age.
You can easily damage the EVAP lines. But they are flexible and long so if you take your time you should be okay.
Plastic does not matter, its designed to withstand fuel. Hold up better than metal actually.
