Default Smokin LR3

Dear All,

I have a 2005 4.4 V8 LR3 that has just started blowing plumes of smoke and whilst initial thoughts were a blown head gasket I'm not seeing any of the other indicators e.g. There is no water in the oil, nor vice versa, engine is running smoothly, all temps and pressures are normal etc.
Also the smoke is white / grey, not blue or black and doesn't smell of oil but more like burning anti freeze or coolant.
If I accelerate gently the smoke is minimal, accelerate hard and I can't see out the back window!
Q. Can this be caused by a faulty EGR valve or some other component in the emissions system?
Vehicle is originally from the US and I'm told the emissions system fitted differs from those built for Europe if that's of any relevance.
Any input would be appreciated. Cheers!

PCV valve is by far most common.

Replace it, and I would suggest a tune up and induction service to clean up the oil that has gotten into the intake and combustion chambers.

Once you replace it, it is going to take a little bit of driving to get the oil out of the system, so it will probably still smoke for a while.

Thumbs up

Followed your advice and problem seems to be resolved with minimum smoke still evident and reducing with every drive!

Many Thanks
