Default Stock nav unit swap...

So after reading about all the cool stuff the stick nav/radio combo can do I am going to ask a question that has probably been asked before.
Can I swap a dash nav/radio unit into my SE that did not come with it? I am assuming at the wiring is there - even for the steering wheel controls that can be added...?

Again, I apologize if I dug up a stinky, well beaten dead horse...

Anything is possible, but probably not worth it. You'd likely need hundreds if not thousands of dollars in parts and work. AFAIK, it's not just plug and play, there are other modules that you'd need to add which would require ripping apart your dashboard and interior (like the navigation DVD unit). I'm sure someone has done it, and would probably advise against it.

I hate to be that person that poo-poos your adventurous idea. Maybe try a search on disco3.co.uk? The Brits tend to be a little more adventurous if you can put up with their liberal use of emoticons.

I saw a write up on D3UK. Seems you need to pull out the entire harness and replace with NAV harness set up. Plus you need DVD player and NAV screen. My Advice, sell your rig and buy a NAV equipped one!

Agree that the cost/benefit is pretty whack on this one. Maybe replace the stereo unit with a double din unit that has Apple Car Play or something. I connected a GVIF and backup camera to my nav, but it was a lot of dough in the end and I probably could've used a 3rd party solution for less...

It isn't that I am not happy with my Lr3 as is - I just want...more! Although, maintenance wise, this particular vehicle is already giving me a run for (a lot of) my money - so I will pass on this particularly expensive and unnecessary endeavor.

Good call, and do as I say not as I do: get through the PO's deferred maintenance before sinking big money into it. I just did the calculus on abandoning ship and I concluded that, given the way these things depreciate, I'd be lucky to get a dime on the dollar for the repairs -- let alone the mods.

That's...discouraging. Thankfully, I am - at the moment - quite enamored with my LR3!
