Default Taking leather off steering wheel?

The leather on my steering wheel is beyond cleaning but I don’t have the cash for a replacement wheel right now. I was wondering if anyone has taken the leather off their steering wheel and what was under it. I know with my land cruiser under the leather was the base non leather wheel so it was no issue taking it off.

Looks like another member here is nice enough to get me a good condition wheel from the junk yard. Once that shows up I'll experiment with taking the leather off my original wheel and see what is under it.

you can get leather and re-wrap it, i think ChrisFix on youtube did it for his mustang project. He may have done a Kodi nox how-to video.

Just wanted to post an update, there is just a soft foam under the leather so taking the leather off isn’t an option.
