Default thermostat removal/change?

Can I just unscrew the three torx screws and remove the thermostat? I'm trying to replace my thermostat with minimal coolant loss and the major need to bleed the system. I have a LR3 4.4 v8, 2006. Thanks.

I assume you have the entire crossover piece? Yes, you can disassemble the crossover and swap just the T-stat.

Do you mean the entire housing with new sensor? If so, no, I just have the replacement thermostat with o-ring. I was planning on just flipping the thermostat housing upside down to work on it right there under the hood. Also is it ok to use global peak gold bottle antifreeze?

Re: PeakGlobal Gold - yes, that is what I use. I forget the numbers, but the specs listed on the bottle are consistent with the recommendations for the 3. Only place I could find it was Menards, but got a rebate for a couple bucks if I remember correctly. I'll see if I can find my notes

How about some pix of your work? Is that stat held in place by spring tension (I saw they advised wearing eye protection)?

Default Thermostat replacement went a lot easier than i thought

It took me about 25 minutes to change my thermostat. I ended up disconnecting all three hoses and brought the housing into my house. I don't have a garage and the weather is 6 degrees, not factoring wind chill. I live in the northeast, good ole Rhode Island.

Removal was pretty easy, but you do have to push down pretty hard and than twist to release the thermostat from the housing. I used a rag to cover thermostat than twisted, and release.

When putting in the new thermostat, DON'T FORGET TO PUT BACK IN THE LITTLE THIMBLE LOOKING THING ON THE END OF YOUR OLD THERMOSTAT!!!!It lifts up with the old unit.
Other than that just reverse everything when placing back into your truck.

Bleeding was real easy. I guess on the v8 4.4, you just run your truck to normal operating temp with all vents and heat cranked. I ran the truck for about 15 minutes got out while still running and than went and unscrewed the bleed screw slowly on the reservoir bottle, and waited until coolant came out, tightened and my truck warmed right up. I have a ultraguage which shows actual engine temps, I Highly recommend getting one of these!!!

actually you are correct on the installation and removal. Its much easier to remove the housing. But to bleed it just let it run with the bleeder screw open until no bubbles appear.
