Default Thoughts on 08' BMW X5 4.8i?

We have a 07' LR3 HSE and we're thinking of buying another vehicle to replace it with. I have been looking at BMW X5's online. I've been looking at the 4.8 V8's. Does anyone have any personal experience with these vehicles? It would be used for day to day driving so I'm not worried about off road performance. How does it compare to a LR3 in that respect? I would have to drive about 250 miles to see one as there are none around where I live so I'm trying to find out as much as I can before I decide to go that route if at all.

What's to milage on the X5? What kind of service records does the owner have?
Keep in mind with the second generation BMW X5 (E70), the drivetrain was built in Germany but it was all assembled in South Carolina. My wife has the 2011 Diesel X5. We really like the Diesel due to excellent mileage driving state to state.
The interior is very cheaply put together. We had some of the plastic interior replaced due to cracks from hot weather (Atlanta and Las Vegas) and also the passenger inside door handle turns into a rubbery nasty goo which needed replacement. When we drive around a curb, you can hear all the creaking and groaning from the plastic interior.

I had an '08 x5 with the 4.8 and it was decent. I would agree the interior was not great, and regular Lexol helps keep the leather alive. Biggest problem the X5 really had was the coolant leak and that is very common. Also had a few 7 series do the same thing. Not withstanding this issue, I would and have bought more x5's. Just be ready because replacing the coolant transfer/crossover pipe will be in your future.
