Actually if you have a v6 there may not be an updated transmission calibration..
Check your gearshift arm at the trans. and cable adjustment

I have the V6, but don't know what you're talking about, Mike. Since the truck is going into the shop tomorrow for a pan cleaning and complete flush, will the shop know what you're suggesting? Highly doubt that they are LR specialists.

UPDATE: I took it to the shop in order to clean the pan and change out the fluid. The Flush guys seem to use a generic fluid instead of OEM ATF.

He brought the truck back last night and said it drove just fine. Seems that it might have been several Quarts low of fluid

Nothing underneath was wet, and the pan and plug were dry, too. How is it possible for a tranny to lose fluid with no outside telltales?

You went to a shop that was found on the BG website. Of course they are going to use the BG fluid.

That was the very first thing you were told to check before all of this nonsense transpired.

At any rate, I hope your problem is solved.

All said, your suggestion was the right one, and I might have gone back under the truck if I'd known that LR3 or ZF ATF was supposed to look and smell that way.

As it was, my senses told me to not bother getting back under the truck because something bad had happened to make the fluid brown and burnt-smelling.

The BG flush was not done. The shop dropped the pan, cleaned it, and replaced with ZF fluid. About $300, all told....
