Default Transmission Clunking at Freeway Speed

Like the title says, I am getting a clunking in the transmission while driving at freeway speeds. It is similar to the California Stop clunk that most of us experience in the LR3 and RRS 2005 to 2009. It isn't constant, it happens every few miles. Sometimes it is subtle, almost like a misfire, occasionally it is more pronounced. It seems to get a bit more active when the truck is warmed up. I rarely notice it on my drive into work, about 10 miles, 6 on the freeway. Ideas? Abran was concerned that the transmission may be on its way out. The truck has 42,000 miles on it. Transmission Fluid has never been changed. No transmission leaks. No CEL, no Fault Codes.

Thanks Phil

I would do a fluid/filter change as a matter of course and a full flush just to get that old fluid out, then if problems persist start looking at other possibilities.

I would also check the driveshaft.

In addition, cycle through low and hi on T case to see if you hear a clunk.

I cycled through the transfer case from hi to low, I can here the actuator working but no clunking. I was driving on the freeway just now. I felt a little hiccup in high gear. I shifted over to M mode for the next 5 miles. I didn't feel any clunk or hiccup in M mode. I will crawl under to check the drive shafts when I get home. thank to all. Phil
