Could be fluid level, but if you are operating it that low you may as well replace the transmission.

Im not sure if my fluid has ever been changed since i bought it from the previous owner, but from transmission pan, the fluid looks clear. The pan is leaking, and electronic connector sleeve has a slow leak. I will replace the pan gasket and order the electronic sleeve connector gasket.

My rpm is going up and down while going on the road, is that because my fluid is low? Sometimes it drops 50 to 100 rpm, and some other day it goes 100 to 500 rpm then goes away when driving it for a while. I do feel this thump or kick when going to a stop though.

lol, i dont have that kinda of money to replace the transmission right now, I need more time, I'll fix the trans pan leaks and add fluid and go from there, if all else fail then I'll save up to buy a transmission .

There is a software update that is supposed to fix the rough "California Stop" tranny kick.

Can be done with a IIDtool (or a shop).

I just wanna follow up on the posts, so I decided to go with MERCON SP fluid, I changed my gasket and filter. Let me tell you something, the rpm stops fluctuating, and it shift very smooth. I do feel a little thump here and there. I'm going to check the trans fluid and make sure is in the right level when transmission is in between 85 to 100 degrees. Overall, it is shifting a whole lot better then it did before!!! Thanks guys!!

I did a transmission service on my 2006 LR3, 175000 miles. I pretty much lost 2nd gear so I decided to take a chance. Ordered the ZF kit with all the sleeves and solenoids. New pan, filter kit from AB. Took a few days but turned out fantastic. Needed to reset the shift adaptations but runs like a new transmission now. My local independent LR shop told me not to do it, said it would never work. Glad I did it.

Thats my job this weekend, got the metal pan and filter, all the seals and 12ltrs of fluid. Only problem is its going to be 38-40c tomorrow and thru the weekend so not looking forward to that.
I don't think i need any solenoids yet so will see how this goes first.

^ Just make sure the solenoid screens are nice and clean. I think clogged screens are more of an issue than anything, heck in any trans those tiny filter screens love to get clogged up and cause all sorts of issues.

I did the conversion on mine but the new metal pan had a leak. I have a new pan, just never got around to swapping it. When I do the valve body is coming down and I will replace the valve body to main body seals. Those harden and cause harsh shifts.

Going through it right now and after some research Pentosin ATF 6 works. See the data sheet attached, follows ZF S671 090 255

Not cheap, but it's available at the Napa auto parts down the street from me.
