Transmission Pan Bolt Failure

Yes. Looks just like pin 14 in the other thread I pointed you to. https://landroverforums.com/forum/lr...e2/#post840761
You’re going to need to find an LR4 book and figure the rest of that out. This is the LR3 forum.

After checking the connector and giving the sleeve some gentle pressure to try and move it a mm, p0500 fault won’t clear. I’m not sure what other steps I can take without draining the fluid and opening it back up again to recheck everythjng. I’m hesitant to try and push the plastic sleeve in further with much force with the white plastic clip still in its upwards locked in position inside.
I know I can reset adaptations, but it doesn’t seem like that would fix either clunky shift from Park, or the speed sensor fault. anything else I can try before I open it up?

Well little update here..
took another look at the connector and there are in fact three white weather plugs in the back of it. So I don’t believe I’m missing that third pin, seems like it wasn’t there to begin with.
I also dug a little deeper on the fault code P0500 that I’m getting. According to the workshop manual it’s related to wheel speed sensor. The transmission speed sensor fault codes all start with p07.. as I said above I did remove the front right wheel a couple days before doing the trans work, so it’s possible something happened there. I didn’t check faults between removing wheel and doing trans.
lastly, I’m not sure I’m in limp mode- there’s no check engine light present, and it drives with seemingly full power and rpm range..
I spoke with a very helpful technician from a local LR specialist shop, he thinks the clunky shifts in low range could just be due to a potentially low fluid fill. I’m currently waiting on a couple liters of new fluid to check level and top off as necessary.
when I was doing the fill procedure initially, it would not let me shift past 2nd gear while stopped. On the road it lets me go up all the way but it does seem to only wanna shift up if I’m at a high enough speed. I realize I’m on the LR3 forum here, but if anyone knows of this is normal LR4 behavior please let me know.
While I’m waiting for the new fluid to arrive I plan to investigate a possible wheel speed sensor issue. The local tech also told me if it was that, there would usually be accompanying abs fault codes, which I don’t have, so still a bit of a mystery.

Update.. still not totally resolved.
Using the gap tool, I was able to get live values from all four wheel speed sensors, ruling out the speed sensor error being from one of the wheels.
I was NOT able to get a live value from one of the two transmission speed sensors.. Turbine speed provides rpm value, but Output Shaft Speed is "N/A". Additionally, Current Engine Torque and Torque Converter Status are "N/A". So it seems like something is up with the output shaft speed sensor.
My next steps are going to be:
1. check/top of the fluid level, then test
2. reset adaptations and do re-learning procedure, then test
3. if still N/A from output shaft speed, then open it up and clean the sensor itself.
Questions:
The workshop manual states the transmission speed sensors "are not serviceable items". Short of cleaning it and checking nothing is obviously broken, does anyone know of anything else I can do? Has anyone here repaired one somehow?
I'm not getting any error codes from the transmission.. if the output shaft speed sensor wasn't working, wouldn't it have thrown a code by now after 100ish miles of driving?
I'll be topping off the fluid tomorrow morning and then we shall see... fingers crossed it's something that simple.

Do you know if the LR4 TCM is in the black
plastic housing attached to the valve body? It is on the LR3.
Ford moved to an external TCM on their 6R80 transmissions where that black plastic housing is just an electrical connector with a couple of built-in speed sensors like you’re seeing with yours.
Ford had trouble with their speed sensors failing potentially causing an unexpected downshift like when you’re doing 80 on the freeway and all of a sudden your trans thinks you’re doing 20. They recalled some and extended warranties on some. I have 2 in my family fleet and replaced them both myself before they were recalled. Ford calls it a leadframe, not a TCM.
If the LR4 did the same thing, then maybe you have the same Ford problem. It’s just a guess for me based on my Ford experience. I don’t have any LR4 resources to dig deeper.
I do like your plan of attack above. Just throwing this out for additional thought.

The shop manual labels the black plastic piece the TCM, so I'm assuming that it's actually in there!
The only weird shifting I have currently is that it's a little slow to downshift, and in low range changing in and out of park is clunky. The slow downshifts I think have been getting less so over the past week, perhaps due to transmission re-learning with the new fluid in there.
Just hoping it's something simple and not needing to replace the mechatronic.
