Transmission update with high mileage
Yes. I did the metal pan conversion. It makes things a lot easier but I still had to make a custom T40 (I think T40?) bit that was only about 1.5mm in length. A short socket. There is a lot of info out there on how to do this project including a video from Atlantic British. It took me about a day, but mainly cause I had to make custom tools and did several trips around town sourcing stuff.
Thats the pan I went with also. Made by Alto - they are the only company that makes em. $100 for that kit, with bolts, etc. But my first pan had a bad weld around the drain and it leaked! Temp fixed for now, have a pan with NO DRAIN to put on next. I dont use that gasket though, it's ****. Me and my buddy went with the Fel-Pro TOS 18753 gasket. Its metal w/rubber seal. MUCH better quality and little chance of leaks. Also we used Motorcraft SP XT-6-QSP Tranmission Fluid. 12 quarts for $90 and its the exact same spec as Lifeguard 6.
I was at my friends house replacing brake pads on his 2006 LR3 with 150k. He had check engine light on which turned out to be a bad coil pack but while I was in there clearing codes I happily clicked reset all adaptations. I've done this before with mine at 120k and had a bit of improvement in the california stop. However, it totally messed up the shifting. It won't shift past 3rd and the shifts are extremely rough because it's waiting too long to shift, around 4k rpms. Any ideas?
There are no coil packs on the LR3, just coils. As for adaptations, fine to clear engine but never the trans unless its had major services or fluid change. All you can do now is hope it does not kill itself while it tries to re-adapt which will take some driving cycles to do.
