In December, I did 2 things to help with cold weather start-up - Electric blanket for Battery, With both plugged in, it made an AMAZING difference when starting, in the recent cold weather. Absolutely no struggles or strange noises of suffering at -10 F. I know that it's possible to fit a Block Heater, but kind of a 'project' on these vehicles, so I went this route instead. The wire for the heating pad was not long enough, so I spliced a longer wire onto it, using heat-shrinking marine tubing to seal the join, along with zip ties to keep the install tidy, and prevent from touching hot engine bits, and I ran it up into engine bay, left (passenger) side, so that Battery and Heating Pad wires can exit engine area at same place. Also ran some corrugated flexible plastic tubing along length of oil pan heating pad, to protect wire. Keeping an adaptor to plug both plugs into one extension cord, in the car. I learned from experience that some cars HATE the cold weather - My now-sold Range Rover HSE with the horrible BMW engine REALLY struggled when starting in cold weather, with all sorts of cooling and engine oil issues. Keeping the Battery warm definitely helps prevent battery-drain issues also.

 

Change spark plugs and oil.

 

Yes I would have put the money into a tune up. Something wrong with that Lr3 if it can't start well in the winter.

Are you leaving it outside exposed or in a garage?

You can get cheap dip stick warmers. Just slide it in the dipstick slot and it heats the oil.

 

Ran wires in the floor chase to the rear area for lighting and to power the ARB cooler. Have to take a lot apart to do this so I ran a few extra wires so I don't have to do this exercise again, it is a real pain.
Tomorrow install outlets for a few things and the switches for the lights if Amazon delivers them. Otherwise later in the week. Have to get a few snap in plugs as they seem to break rather than free themselves.

 

Didn't do anything YET....... but I did order a welder online last night. Gonna be building stuff soon!

 

Ended up with an excellent condition Yakima roof rack with two bike mounts from a second hand store for twenty bucks. So, I had to go get a mountain bike. Especially since it has been there years since I've ridden.
I suppose this rack will do until I build a cage to put up there.

Still have a harmonic vibration in engine / trans.

I think I'm just going to detail the hell out of it tomorrow, put the windows and sunroof down, and enjoy it... not much else I can do for the vibration it seems. At least till it becomes more obvious what's at fault.

 

So you drive your 99 much? Someone here in town has a late nineties and it is a mean looking truck! It has everything from the cage that extends down the sides to the tanks on the back with the perfect tires. I just can't ever pin him down to ask about it

 

For what it is worth, as it costs nothing, at the rear, look under by each muffler tailpipe and see if each of the harmonic balance weights is still hanging there and freely rocks backs and forth a bit.

You should be able to move each of them an inch or so forward and rearward.
