When this subject came up on the discussion board of a LR3 owners group page on facebook regarding tires, wheels and spacers; I made a video to post there. I just posted it on you tube as the file would not upload here.
Take particular interest near the end when I make it around the vehicle to the driver's rear and explain why "wide stance" and "sheet metal" don't always mix well

"If" you go with some wheel spacers make absolutely sure they're Hub Centric! You'll pay more vs those simply sold as spacers, but it will retain the factory Hub Centric setup.
I got a set of American Racing wheels from my brother that came with his LR3. I'm currently running them on my 99 D2. They sit out about 1.5inches vs the OEM wheels.

I have 285/60/18 AT tires and they rub slightly at full lock only, I am considering 1" or 1.25" spacers but nothing bigger.
