I would be amazed if you could find an auto locksmith that could program your key to your LR, but if you can find one then I'd say yes, that's a pretty good deal. They'd need to have the appropriate (expensive) LR-specific tool, like the IID.

If you have the original blades, they can be transferred to a new fob relatively easily (it's a bit of a pain; time-consuming, but not difficult). The fobs are maybe $20 off ebay. Buy from US sellers for ease of return if there's a problem. There's insurance cover for $2 or something like that so if they fail in a year you get your money back. Once you have the blade on the new fob and provided you have at least one working key, you can reprogram the key yourself with the IID tool in about 1 minute. Some of the ebay fobs don't have rechargeable batteries, but some do. I changed my key about 3 years ago for an ebay one as the buttons were worn and it's been fine since.
